The Daily Plate app for iPhone!
posted by Lex on November 2nd, 2008

Check out our brand new LIVESTRONG Calorie Tracker app for iPhone and iPod Touch!

Foods and fitness you track on your device will sync back to the site, and you can use your existing TDP or LIVESTRONG account with the application.

Please note that currently the app does not pull down foods that you track on the site onto the phone, but our next version will!

Update: There had been some search result issues in the app; most of these are already resolved. By Monday, search results within the iPhone app should match the site exactly, 100% of the time.

A release is planned for next week that will add bi-directional syncing, fix some crashes, and more!

I would love to see an Android application for Google OS-based phones. I would even be willing to write one if there is an open API for The Daily Plate.

A request - could you add more fractional options when you are entering serving size? Current options are 0, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4. It would be great to add 1/3 and 2/3.

I love the app but the bidirectional sync does not work. The app does a lot of crashing. A few other features and it would be dang near perfect.

I'm getting constant crashes too, since upgrading the app. Rebooting the phone seems to give temporary stability, but if I leave to use Twitterriffic for a while and try to relaunch, the TDP app crashes during relaunch.

How soon do you anticipate the sync issue to resolve that you mentioned in your 11/2 post?
Love the program it's great for pedantic people like me.

First of all, the potential for this app is huge. I am so so happy you guys decided to take this on. However, since the last update, two days ago perhaps, I have not been able to use the app at all, constant crashes. I am going to reinstall it from my itunes folder later today. I had about one glorious hour where it synced correctly and allowed me to make food searches, now it crashes upon launch every time.

Hello, I hope you will have a version for Windows mobile/PDA.

Any plans to develop an app for Blackberrys?

I have noticed it often crashes on a second food search - if I search for one food, and add it, and return to the search screen, it shuts down when I touch the search box.

Other than that, outstanding job, guys! A really terrific app, and it has gotten me back into using my account again. I had slacked off a little, now I'm back logging religiously. I am looking forward to the update with two-way synching. I agree with the other posters - I would like to see protein grams on the food description pages, and I also would like to be able to view all my entered foods and my favorite foods, like I can in the web app. I eat the same thing for breakfast every day and it would be great to just touch it once and have it added.

At first I tried and it told me I had to be a gold memeber. Has this happened to anyone eles?

As of right now, my app DOES NOT sync back to the site at all! The only thing the app recognizes, is my name and password. I can't wait for the new version!! It will make The Daily Pate an even better experience for me!!!! I LOVE THIS SITE!!
Comment from ican, on November 10th, 2008 at 7:08 am

It currently doesn't list protein on the iphone app. Fixable?

Is there a similar app available for Windows Mobile Smartphones? This would be great.
Comment from kirabug, on November 6th, 2008 at 11:07 am

I'm so much happier using this app than I was the mobile site. Thank you!

Is there a location where we should be reporting bugs, other than this newspost? A forum, or a tech support page?

This is a GREAT start and I've already found it very useful. It has crashed a few times but just restarted the app and then worked fine. Love seeing my iPhone entries appear on the site. If it works both ways it will be even better!

Thanks so much! It's a good start, and I'm really looking forward to even more enhancements! One request: On the search results page, can you also include the Calories for that food item on the list page, to assist in choosing the correct item from search results?

You folks are great, and your work is really appreciated!

finally! i've been searching and waiting. thank you!
Comment from kfries6, on November 3rd, 2008 at 3:47 pm

ok, I apparently spoke too quickly. If I turn my phone on, then go directly to this app, it tells me "no network". If I go to the browser the network works fine. If I then go back to this app and try my search again, it tells me "no results". Something ain't fully baked with this app.

Also, I hope to get rid of this crappy phone and get something Android based, is there an Android version planned?
Comment from csriver, on November 3rd, 2008 at 3:13 pm

Every search returns "broccoli (raw florets)" for me too. The app has a lot of errors and malfunctions.
Comment from jwfowble, on November 3rd, 2008 at 12:23 pm

I just installed the app on my ipod touch. It looks nice but why did searching for diet coke find "broccoli (raw Florets)" and "Banana - 100 grams" and no diet coke ?

Any plans for a blackberry program?

THIS ROCKS!!!

Tried it tonight when I saw the link on TDP page while at Applebee's. I was trying to check out calories on a specific menu item when I saw the link. Missed the note about not downloading... That kinda sucks, but it did allow me to search very fast from a local app. The TDP page causes the browser on the phone to crash allot!, this app should stop that. I can confirm that what I entered at the restaurant was indeed on the page when I got home. So, while it was not a complete app, it is still a HUGE improvement over the website. Now lets hope the download part is fixed soon.

Thx guys
