Downtime explanation and MyPlate announcement
posted by Lex on December 2nd, 2008

Some of you may have noted that LIVESTRONG.COM and TheDailyPlate.com were offline for a bit earlier today. We ran into some issues with one of our databases, and it took some time to repair.

As part of the fix, we've archived all MyPlate data that's more than six months old. So, if you're wondering why you can't find that burger you tracked back in April -- now you know!

We plan to restore all archived data over the next several days.

Please let us know if you run into any glitchiness that you think may be related to this. Thanks, as always, for your patience and support!

Just an update since I know a lot of people have asked about this and they didn't bother to add a post on The Daily Plate: According to the LiveStrong site (http://www.livestrong.com/blog/) the data restoration is "coming soon."

Ok , I have to put in my 2 cents, too.
After being gone for a while and now back I readjusted my settings and now my progress bar is not working.
It tells me I have 30 pounds till goal...if it only were true..
I know glitches happen and sites have server troubles , but please, this is taking the fun and motivation out of this place, especially when the gold members are charged for a service we can't use. I will most certainly not renew to another year of gold.
And no response by any of the admins in over a month is not acceptable...shame on you.
Please fix these glitches

All of the meals I've created over the past year are now gone. The name of the meal is still there, but all of the items that were included in the meals are GONE and it says 0 cals. What gives? That's a major frustration and waste of my time!!

I wish thedailyplate had never been taken over by livestrong!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to be negative, but in the last few days it has taken me longer to log my meals than to eat them. Is that the secret of how this site is supposed to help? :-)

Any idea when we're getting our information back? I planned to download and print out my information to show my doctor at my yearly physical later this month. Half of my year's worth of diaries are gone, with no updates on this situation in over a month! What gives?

Helllloooo... is anybody there?... Can someone acknowledge some of our concerns? Are you busy working behind the scenes, or have you given up?

so uh, i thought our archived plate was being restored? a few days has turned into almost a month. it's really discouraging not to be able to track my success or look back at my progress, that was my whole point of joining and sticking with this site for so long. have you lost all the data?
Comment from sweetheartjess, on December 29th, 2008 at 8:22 am

Certain food items will not load. Chicken, for example.

How come I haven't been able to see my front page on The Daily Plate? Anytime I try to see it or my friends it only takes me to the Plate page!!! VERY frustration seeing that I have a "ticker" on my front page that counts down to my wedding!!

Don't know if it is related, but I can't seem to find the "Add item" or "add recipe" either on TDP or at Livestrong.

the livestrong site is EXTREMELY SLOW today. i can only use thedailyplate.com and that works fine. what is going on?
Comment from suanough, on December 19th, 2008 at 12:31 pm

I do have a glitch on My Daily Plate. I cannot record the amount of water. The little animation in the upper right goes up and down the scale but the amount does not register...

Hi, Lex. I hope you are having a great holiday season. Here is an idea to mull over in 2009:
** associate the mood drop down with each meal instead of the overall day. I really like the drop down box and I would just love to be able to trace my comfort foods and since my moods shifts during the day this would be incredibly helpful.
Thanks, and I hope Santa is good to you!

I still can't find any info earlier than June 2, 2008. Are you still uploading the archives?
Comment from DeanLC7, on December 8th, 2008 at 7:26 am

Some of my historic items still aren't showing up in the search? Are you still uploading the archives or is this a different issue?
Comment from teacher12, on December 7th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

I really missed having access to the site while it was down. No worry though. I have learned alot about portions and calories so I was fine. I am glad that the glitches were repaired. Thanks for doing a stellar job. I love, love, love this site. Thank you!

My weight history is also gone, is this for the same reason?

I'm also not able to update activity. it wouldn't let me last night and again today.
Comment from nofatpants, on December 4th, 2008 at 8:31 am

I can't edit my saved meals...tried last night and again this morning and instead of showing just the items in the meal, it shows alllllll items on myplate instead. When I tried last night(at 7pm PST) on livestrong, it threw me ahead to today's plate.

It would be great if we were allowed to delete some of our meals or recipe's that are either duplicates or maybe we don't need anymore. Would that help to clean up the database??? -It would also be nice to get rid of some of the duplicates, but I suppose since people are using them, that gets pretty complicated. Do you ever reject items when they are not accurately entered??
