Welcome to The Daily Plate!

What is the Daily Plate?

The Daily Plate is an online destination focused on all things food. Our mission is to help you eat smarter by allowing you to get quick and easy access to comprehensive nutritional information on the food that you eat. You can search for food items, view healthy alternatives and track what you eat on a daily basis.

We chose the name The Daily Plate because our main objective is to promote healthy eating each and everyday. The Daily Plate was not created to make you stick to the latest diet or exercise fad. While we think dieting and exercise are key components to healthy living they can often fail because they are too difficult to follow or lack the necessary support and encouragement. We believe that every diet and exercise plan should be accompanied by comprehensive and daily food education as well as a strong support group. Our goal is to educate and empower you to make good eating and exercise decisions on your own while providing you with support and encouragement from The Daily Plate community.

Things you can do on The Daily Plate:

Join the Community – We are strong believers in community here at The Daily Plate. We feel that in order promote healthy eating everyday you need a support group. Get support and give support on The Daily Plate message boards. Look for other great community features in the future.

Food Search – Search for comprehensive nutritional information on recipes and food items from grocery stores, restaurants and the community.

Get Healthy Alternatives – Looking for something with a fewer calories and less fat? How about something with less sugar or carbs? Healthy Alternatives are recommendations for similar items that would be a healthier choice. When viewing a food item page you will see a list of Health Alternatives to your current choice if they are available. While some items, like a nice salad, are tough to beat you would be surprised at how much little things like choosing different dressings can reduce calories.

Add/Edit Items – The Daily Plate is nothing without its members. You, the user, are able to edit an existing item to make it better (e.g. more descriptive, more up-to-date) or add items of your own, if it’s from a brand, store or, restaurant that the site doesn’t yet have information for.

Track What You Eat – Tracking what you eat each day is not the easiest thing. There are printed journals, online journals but they are not very easy to use. We want to change that and provide the easiest way to track what you eat. Our answer? MyPlate. Every food item you find on the site has a big green “I Ate This!” button. As you use it, you’ll find that we’ve made counting calories (and protein, and fat, and cholesterol, and…) as easy as a click!

More great things to come!

    To all at TDP,
After a cursory review, I am compelled to comment on what seems to be a comprehensive site for me to “turn to” through the day. I thank you, in advance, for creating this non threatening, safe place to assist me in removing these unwanted pounds and creating a lifestyle to support my efforts. In fact, I believe I will no longer request of each physician I visit to provide me with a local human resource for helping me reduce my blood sugar levels. I will simply tell each, especially the Endocrinologist, that I have located a resource which, although non-local and non speaking, will most probably provide the information and guidance that I need. Thank you.
